Santorum Rising in Iowa

The history of the Republican race to date would read like Who’s Who in the asylum.  They seem desperate to find anyone but Multiple Mitt.  First it was ‘Crazy’ Michele, followed by Donald ‘the hair’, followed by ‘God chose me’ Perry, followed by ‘999’ Cain, followed by ‘Newter’, and followed by ‘Racist’ Ron.  Now Mitt is back in the lead, but Rick ‘Google Me’ Santorum, infamous for comparing Gay marriage to sex with dogs, is rising in polls.  Will this [expletive deleted] become the next GOP flavor?

29SantorumGoogleJust six days ahead of the Iowa caucuses, a new poll of Iowa Republicans suggests that Newt Gingrich’s political star may be falling in Iowa, where the former House speaker now comes in fourth behind frontrunner Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and surprise third-place finisher Rick Santorum.

The poll, conducted by CNN/Time/ORC from December 21-27, shows Romney leading Paul 25 percent to 22 percent in the first-in-the-nation caucus state, while Santorum trails with 16 percent. Gingrich earned 14 percent. Romney’s three point lead falls within the poll’s margin of error, which was 4.5 percent.

Behind Gingrich came Rick Perry with 11 percent, Michele Bachmann with 9 percent, and Jon Huntsman with one percent. Two percent of respondents said they had no opinion.

Gingrich has fallen dramatically in the last month, compared to a poll conducted by the same group between November 29-Dec. 6. In that survey, Gingrich led the pack in Iowa with 33 percent support. Mitt Romney trailed him by 13 points, with 20 percent, and Ron Paul followed him with 17 percent. Santorum, at the time, was not even polling in the double digits: He earned just five percent a month ago… [emphasis added]

I have to wonder if the SPCA will file suit. ;-)  Lawrence O’Donnell interviews former governor Ed Rendell.

Rendell may be right. Santorum could ne just despicable enough to appeal to the hate-filled Republican base and challenge Romney.

  1. What do you do?  Root for Santorum knowing his extreme views and even though politically he is no better than road kill, because Mr Obama could clean his clock, based on Rendell’s opinions, or do you root for one of the others who aren’t quite so extreme?  Perhaps ‘root’ is the wrong word but think you know what I mean.

In the pieces of debates that I saw, he didn’t seem to be very active, although I only saw pieces.  I have seen articles about his views on LGBT rights and questions and I disagree with him 200%.  Personally, as POTUS, one represents ALL the people no matter race, ethnicity, colour, sexual orientation or gender.  How can he commit to that with such extreme views?

Really when it comes down to it, like all the rest of the Republican/Teabagger candidates, Santorum does not have what it takes for POTUS and will not be able to connect with the majority of the 99%.

I just finished watching a Rachel Maddow segment on Rick Santorum and didn’t realise that in his last election outing, he was thrashed by his opponent.  So if his extreme views haven’t changed, what makes him think that this time will be any different?  I hear a locomotive steaming down the track at Santorum.

The only good Republican/Teabagger is a non-existent one!

    • Lynn, furthermore he was thrashed by a Democrat in a Senate race, let alone a Presidential contest.  What you’re watching here is a wounded monster writhing in desperation.

  2. I once again have to say the religious phenomenon in this country absolutely disgusts me – It’s the reason why I moved to NYC, where at least there is a peaceful coexistence! His response to that soldier was horrific – not only did he not thank him for his service, but he assumed sexual behavior “in the military” as if his fellow soldiers were “at risk”! This is what I HATE about organized religion and its evangelical fanatics – of course “google” -Santorum  is America’s version of Bin Laden, or Netanyahu (sorry if you’re a “N” fan) – we’ve somehow got to go back to separating the ideology of these creeps from politics – religion is taking over the mind set of the GOP and infecting their policy – there’s an appeal to that hate in America! We’re no different from the radical muslims and extremists everywhere – it’s intolerable when it saturates politics!

    • Lee, I agree as long as you exclude authentic Christians, who exhibit none of the hatred that Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians live.

  3. They are all insane. Conservatives – as opposed to Tea Bagging nuts – are a people without a political party to call their own.

    • Arte you sure, Leslie? I think most real conservatives are Democrats, and we progressives are without a party of our own.  That’s why we must either capture the Democratic party or form a new one, after the GOP is gone.

  4. Santorum? Let me Google that for you …

And over at DemocraticUnderground, their current FP cartoon hits home about Santorum and Google:

  5. Rick Santorum?!?  The “frothy-one” is on the rise.  Ha ha ha ha ha ha ……..

  6. Santorum rising? As in the slang term, courtesy of Savage? Now THAT’s a revolting mental image! Excuse me while I look for my brain bleach.

  7. HAAAAAAAAA!!! I laughed like hell this morning when I learned that the batshit-crazy Michele Bachmann’s Iowa campaign manager had DUMPED her to join Ron Paul’s campaign—HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! It turns out he had called to inform her as he was driving to a Ron Paul campaign event. These idiot conservative Republicans can’t even keep their own campaigns in order. How the hell do they expect to run the country in any sort of cohesive manner? First, Bachmann led in Iowa. Then Perry. Then Cain. Then Gingrich. Now they’re talking about Paul, Santorum, or Romney. It takes your breath away to see how foolishly fickle these no-mind conservatives really are. They ought to put each of their candidates on pogo sticks and let them bounce up and down until they’ve fallen off a high cliff. WHAT A PACK OF ABSOLUTE LOSERS!!!

    • Jack, we must have been laughing at the same time. 🙂

    • You can add dishonest losers’ he should have kept his pledge to Bachmann, even though she”s losing right now.  Clearly, the Iowans are very confused about who they want as their president and they keep changing their minds like I change socks.

  8. The very thought of any one of these ill mannered ass wipe as  President– the most powerful leader in the free world- scares the Hell out of me– That they are , any one of them , even considered as Presidential material , is  frightening; We have a Congress out in left field- a powerless government , hamstrung by idiots- to quote Jack Jodell– ” what a pack of losers”

  9. I hope we  don’t lose Dennis!

Who at Crooks and Liars wrote that dumb ass statement.

Rick Santorum is not only a douche but he’s a douche ass well.
