OK, I know it’s obvious. Perry lied. The Pope is Catholic. Bears do you know what in the woods. In this case, I hate to admit it, but Michelle Bachmann was right about his motivation. However she was completely wrong about the rest of the garbage she spewed on the issue, that the vaccine causes instant mental retardation. That’s just Batsh*t B InsaniTEA.
Rick Perry has taken a lot of heat for signing an executive order in 2007 requiring HPV vaccination for all girls in Texas. Michele Bachmann accused him of doing so because he was lobbied by Merck, the drug company that produced the vaccine.
But at this week’s debate, Perry had a pretty good answer to that accusation. In fact, it was probably his finest moment during an otherwise very unimpressive performance:
"I got lobbied on this issue. I got lobbied by a 31-year-old young lady who had Stage 4 cervical cancer. I spent a lot of time with her. She came by my office, talked to me about the program."
Perry isn’t exactly known for his compassion, but that’s a pretty compelling reason to mandate vaccination…
…Just one problem—it’s not true:
Perry on Feb. 2, 2007, signed the order directing the state Health and Human Services commissioner to mandate human papillomavirus vaccination for all girls before admission to the sixth grade. Perry at the time released a statement saying that the vaccine "provides us with an incredible opportunity to effectively target and prevent cervical cancer," which HPV can cause.
Perry met Burcham after Feb. 2, 2007, campaign spokesman Mark Miner told CNN Friday, but he was not sure of the precise date. Miner said Perry never claimed to have met Burcham before he signed the order.
So Perry is claiming that he signed this order in an act of compassion because he was lobbied by someone he didn’t meet until after he signed the order… [emphasis original]

Now the only way Perry could be telling the truth here, is if he got Christine O’Donnell to wiggle her noise and poof him a time warp. It is infinitely more credible that Merck bought and paid for him. The notion that he did it merely to help young girls is not believable. If that were true, he would have had no need to lie, and after all, he is a Republican.

Perry never met a lie he didn’t make. 🙂
Amen, Maria!
Perry is little more than your average crooked, bigmouth politician from Texas. All are advised to not listen to his drivel. Instead, just spur him in the ass and boot him back where he belongs, deep in the heart of Texas. The last thing we need in the White House is another W-style ignorant massive liar.
we don’t want him back. how bout we send him to Wisconsin? anything there has to be an improvement even perry
Now, Murky. You have a really big fence down there. Just put him on the other side of us and hope Mexico doesn’t declare war! 😉
That he is/was even considered a viable candidate speaks volumes about the disarray of the GOP–Perry is just anothe big windy from texas-
Well said!
This was said with the affirmation by Perry that “he always errs on the side of human life” days after his what? 135th execution as Texas governor – he’s proven even to republicans that he isn’t beyond hypocritical, which is fine with most of them, just don’t get caught in the act!
For Republicans, human life begins at conception and ends at birth.
Truth be told, I’d rather see Perry or Cain or Bachmann or Palin at the head of their ticket than Romney or even Christie. Only Romney or Christie have a ghost of a chance at appealing to moderates; the others are just too looney.
And heaven knows our country can NOT afford having a repubican in the White House at this critical time!
Whoever gets the nomination will be so discredited by the lies it to to get it that he will be a sitting target.
Perry is a loon and a liar – but what do you expect with him. You cannot mandate that vaccine or any other one – it’s the parent’s choice.
Lisa, I agree. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the vaccine, but unless it is a public health issue (like polio), it should be up to the parents.
It might not have blown up quite so badly had he said I was lobbied by Merck and this 31 year old woman. We already know that the TeaBaggers and Republicans are in the back pockets of big business, that’s nothing new.
I’d like to know who is running Texas while this yahoo is on the road shooting his mouth off?
The context is damning. Batshit B had him dead to rights.
Corporations.
HPV vaccine should be an optional thing for one to make their own choice of having it. Not a demand.
Welcome Jon. 🙂
I agree with you.
