Yesterday I saw on television that family foundations of the super rich are financing the Republican meme of hatred toward Muslims to the tune of $42 million.  Sadly their violent rhetoric has not fallen on deaf ears, as we have seen example after example of Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians, showing their “love” through violence.  Ever here in progressive Oregon, we are not immune.

28cody_crawfordA 24-year-old Oregon man — who told police that he was a "Christian warrior" — has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly firebombing a mosque last November.

Cody Crawford faces 10 to 30 years if convicted of firebombing the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center, which is about 200 feet from his house. Although his DNA has been connected to the crime scene, Crawford has maintained that he’s "100 percent innocent."

In an unrelated incident, Crawford had ranted to police about Muslims, according to court documents.

"You look like Obama," he said to a McMinnville officer in December. "You are a Muslim like him. Jihad goes both ways. Christians can jihad too."

The documents reveal that Crawford also told authorities that "only Christians could understand him, that he was a Christian warrior that they were persecuting."… [emphasis added]

Here’s video coverage.

Of course, Republican hatemongers will say, “Who us?”  They will try to say this is our fault, falsely claim equivalence, or even accuse us of a “blood-libel” against them, as Bullseye Barbie did.

The saddest part of this is that I doubt that the mainstream Republican leadership actually shares in this bigotry.  But they are even more vile than those who do, because they have welcomed, supported and defended those  who do, and they have even helped spread the hatred to use it for political advantage.

  1. So why isn’t this all over the news? This is the first I’ve seen it and I follow the news like a cat follows salmon.

    • It wasn’t even in the news when the firebombing happened months ago. I guess the MSM censors news about Republican terrorists.

  2. Mainstream Republicans may not be as racist as they once were, but they are the biggest bigots of all. They live in gated communities, play golf in exclusive clubs with “strict” social-economic standards, and hire private security firms to keep the “unwashed” masses away from them. Let us not forget that mainstream Republicans are not for helping anyone but themselves. They don’t want to associate with any “working men” or “poor people”. They’re bigots. They’re just good at hiding it, through their “charitable giving”, mostly to thinly disguised hate groups. 👿

  3. Their hate-mongering seems to be working nicely for them. Glenn Beck probably giggled over this one.

  4. The location tag says this came from the AP’s Eugene office – is that the general area this occurred? My wife and I once thought of planting ourselves there, only to wind up stuck in South Carolalaland. So which one would be worse for us?

  5. When will this hate STOP!!!???

Hatered like this is bad enough, but when it is adopted by a mainstream political party, it seems so insidious, so much worse. Stand up people and smell the coffee. Listen to what the Republicans are saying! Listen to what they are NOT saying! They don’t care about anyone but themselves.

This fellow needs to be in prison for the rest of his life where hopefully he can’t do too much harm, although I’m not so sure he can’t do harm from there.

    • Lynn, I agree with all but the last. I think everyone has the potential to be redeemed. The funny thing here is that, due to the location of the crime, if he decides he wants to change his ways, I could end up working to help the guy do so.

  6. “Republican Terrorist Arrested in Oregon”

Isn’t it funny how the writer of the article magically came up with the idea the so called Christian terrorist was a Republican? Was there something I missed, or did the writer of this article just magically pull that claim out from where the sun don’t shine? It certainly didn’t come from the video, and police don’t make it a habit to inform the public of a persons religeous or political affiliations (unless they’re in Norway).

If the suspect claimed to be a “Christian Warrior”, that still doesn’t mean he’s a Christian, but even if he is, … the arson was the work of ONE person.

    @ Tomcat,
Instead of just posting some made up BS about “family foundations of the super rich are financing the Republican meme of hatred toward Muslims to the tune of $42 million”, how about you post some actual proof of that fact. You can (and it sounds like you do), make up anything you want and put it into words, but that doesn’t make it true.

From what I’m reading here, it seems to me many of you childish, name calling Leftists are the ones who are the haters and bigoted ones.
    FYI, I’m NOT a Republican.

    • Don, you should have checked the rules here. We do not personally attack each other. When you called me a liar, you put yourself on comment moderation until you demonstrate that you can behave civilly.

I never called him Christian. I called him a pseudo-Christian, because he is clearly not. I called him a Republican, because hatred of Muslims, and accusing Obama of being a have been exclusively Republican memes.

I did not make up some BS, as you claim. Here is a link to the proof.

If you are Tea Party, then you are a Republican. You certainly act like one.

  7. To Kevin:

I sent you a polite email to you explaining that we do not call each other names here, and that calling me a “pawn doing the bidding of the Gilded Fascist Elite” is not acceptable behavior here. When it bounced, i learned that you lied when you left your email address. You are no longer welcome here.
