Because he is now the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination, it is important that we pay attention to what this man says, what he has said, and the difference between the two. Whatever Rick Perry may say to the contrary, he has made it abundantly clear that his vision for America includes no Social Security and No Medicare.
Rick Perry has managed to fly below the radar on this, but on August 14 he told a gathering of Iowa Republicans that it’s "a fact" that Social Security and Medicare are going to be eliminated for future generations, adding that we need to have an "adult conversation" about "how are we going to make the transformation." And it’s on video:
…Obviously, the big thing here is that Rick Perry, as a candidate for the presidency, has taken the position that Social Security and Medicare are going to disappear, and that instead of saving them, we need to talk about how to transition away from them. He said people who are now in their sixties would be spared, but for everybody else, Perry’s position is that we’re going to get rid of Social Security and Medicare.
Needless to say, that’s a radical position, and it’s a pretty big deal. It should be major issue as the campaign moves forward.
It’s also worth noting that Perry urged his audience to read his book to learn more about his views on the issue. And yes, that’s the same book that his spokesman just said was "not meant to reflect the governorβs current views."β¦ [emphasis added]

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
This has been the Republican position for almost half a century. Perry spewing this stupidity does not frighten me, neither does every one of them that raises the issue who raises the age that people don’t have to worry about it (he went from “in their 60’s” from Ryan’s 55.) This is just another Boomer without the brain God gave a gnat. Perry is not the problem because he factored himself in (he is currently 58) to get his social security, the problem are the Cantors and Ryans who are the Gen X bastards we boomers taught the goodness of greed and self before nation. They are the ones who collectively amount to 1% of the Republican party who are leading it because they have the moderates (or those that used to be moderate) scared because those fools think they control huge voting blocks.
What scares me about this election cycle is we are going to watch another year of complete Senate obstruction and that will give whom ever a shot at the White House turning blood red. And yes Obama is not going to have a cake walk because of tripe like this being spread and given attention which does nothing but make the herd nervous and ignorant. Ignorant because they refuse to educate themselves on who is who and what their true record is.
I know you are a pacifist Tom but you must realize by now they want a civil war, then they won’t have to deal with euthanasia. They think us old geezers don’t have any balls because we gave the little pricks every toy they ever wanted when they were growing up instead of making them work for it, now they just want to take it. Sorry I watch this bullshit get spread on every stump and can only think “never should have given those kids an X box without making them work for it” And when this civil war comes do you think the Federal Government or even OHIO are going to remember Kent state and what it feels like to the national psyche to see Americans killing Americans? What they forget is we are the last generation who is not pistol happy but are still able to take our tired ass selves out in the bush and live with a long gun and survive without the concrete surrounding us.
Perry is a liar, an idiot and if you ask just about any Texan that is not inbred from a close cousin marriage they despise him and are just evil enough to foist him off on the national stage just as a way to get rid of him.
Don’t get me wrong, you do a service for the choir, but the choir already is convinced. The question is will they protect themselves or will they run when the lightning spooks the herd to stampede?
AMEN!
AMEN brother AMEN! AMEN!
Well said.
As I have said many times, the only good Republican is a dead Republican, and I don’t care how they die.
Mark, I agree. They want a civil war, and if they start one, I have no criticism against those who defend themselves. Personally, I practice nonviolence, but for others, I counsel non-aggression.
Perry – in his new book “Fed Up” – literally calls Social Security a “bad disease”.
Quote from Perry’s book, “Fed Up”
Well, Perry’s book would be immensely improved with a well-positioned apostrophe.
There you go, Rick … FIFY.
Amen, Nameless!
I’m amazed as I watch the people at Perry’s public appearances, they stand there mesmerized by this extreme cowboy figure and probably don’t have a clue what he stands for and what his plans are if he should by a MIRACLE become POTUS. They just know they hate Barack Obama and want him out, no matter who in the extreme right replaces him. Uneducated morons…Perry supporters=Walmart rednecks…
I call them Sheeple.
If Rick Perry becomes president the inner city explode. We in Texas all know what a complete piece of shit this worthless fucker is — a real corporate tool. They and the religious nuts will try their big move during Perry. Gotta quit writing now. There’s a gun show to attend!
Tom, sadly that would nit surprise me.
I think he and Michele should have crazy lithium babies together, And only if we take away Congress healghcare and pensions too. π
Lisa, I hope you are not encouraging them to breed!
OK, speaking as a veteran (I lived in Texas for 40 years), here’s the type of voter in Texas, which explains how Perry has won every election he has ever entered (count ’em – 10!). Coupled with a boat load of money, of course.
True story: In about 2006, I was taking a breaking at work and talking with a co-worker about some dingbat thing George W. had done, and I told her “Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for him.” She explained she actually HAD voted for Bush II (few were admitting this in 2006) because she didn’t like John Kerry’s wife — thought she was snooty.
God help us.
Tell you what, this is a dangerous man and the Democrats are going to HAVE to take the gloves off against him. No more John Kerry failing to defend himself against the “swift boaters” (led incidentally by Mike Toomey, close personal friend of Perry’s). We need James Carville, Ram Emanuel, Hillary Clinton and whoever else who actually has a pair to go mano-a-mano with this guy and the millions he will have to spend from his pals on Wall Street. He represents the absolute worst of pay-for-play politics and must be defeated. You can bet Congressional Republicans will continue to foil all actions that would in any way improve the country and continue to blame Obama through November, 2012.
Ann, grass roots Democrats are taking the gloves off and quite successfully. Our President needs to learn from their example.
