I was hoping to report to you that Democrats had taken back the state Senate. Democrats have won two of the three seats they need and the third may have been decided by foul play. You may remember that I wrote about the Wisconsin Supreme Court contest in which Democrat Joanne Kloppenberg appeared defeated Republican ideologue David Prosser, when the Waukesha County clerk, Republican Activist and former Prosser employee Kathy Nicholaus, miraculously found just enough “misfiled” votes for Prosser to win. The reason all the other races had been decided so much earlier than this one is that Kathy Nicholaus is at it again. Results trickled down from Waukesha County, possibly to give Nicholaus enough time to know how much to adjust her personal vote counting database to assure Darling’s win.
A state Democratic Party spokesman accused a Republican official Tuesday night of tampering with votes in the tight 8th Senate District recall race.
With 10 of 11 Waukesha County wards still out — including all of those in Menomonee Falls — party spokesman Graeme Zielinski said, “We believe the election in this contest has been tampered with by Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus.
“She’s sitting on votes. We believe that right now, there are severe irregularities in Waukesha County once again. We believe the very fate of the Wisconsin Senate hangs in the balance and is in the hands of a woman who has already shown extreme incompetence.”
“We believe there’s dirty tricks afoot.”… [emphasis added]

I offer my congratulations to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for giving the rest of us an example of how politicians willing to fight for what is right can mobilize people behind the. I hope Washington, DC is paying attention.
Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus needs to be investigated by the FEC. Either she is crooked as an old man’s back or stupid as a post but I am betting it’s the former. What is this the third time there has been irregularities in her district? It’d be nice to see her in a privatized prison system.
Mark, I’d love to see it, but FEC only has jurisdiction over elections to federal office.
Of course the vote was stolen -so what’s new? Hello Gore!
What’s utterly repulsive is that regardless of “stolen” votes and “irregularities” WI is the indicator that the people of this country are determined to “frog” it up – ie – get in the pot of a slow boil of water – and enjoy their bath! How the hell can they all vote GOP after their experience? They get what they ask/vote for! I find this not only a terrible defeat for the democratic party, but also an indicator of the future – the country’s frogs have spoken!
Lee, all these races were in carefully gerrymandered districts so Republican that they elected all these Senators in 2008, during the Obama sweep. One has been Republican for over 100 years. That we actually won two, despite all the Koch lies that flooded the airwaves, is a herculean feat.
Given that these districts have been solid red for years and years (frequently with NO Democrat even bothering to run), flipping two of them to blue isn’t bad.
But I was really hoping to get the three!
Amen Nameless.
WTF is Kathy Nickolaus still doing in that job in the first place? Why wasn’t some type of election watchdog there to keep things on the up and up?
There is no watchdog, but there is a watchwolf, and her name is Kathy Nicholaus.
I agree, Kevin,
Welcome QM. 🙂
Kathy Nickolaus is still there, because the jurisdiction is all Wisconsin, and Republicans conreol the investigation and enforcement.
It’s disappointing, true, but at least 2 of them got taken down and the rest put on notice. Another good thing — the Dems made them use up some of that war chest they’re squirrelling away for fall.
True Blue., but the Koch brothers have deeper pockets than we do.
It is a mixed success ; not a failure ; the GOP now controls by 1 vote– a very slim margin ; I admire the fight that was waged.
How anyone could watch the results and not be convinced of something wrong in Waukesha county– is beyond me!! NIckolous ? Perhaps a Stupid Woman – who happens to be dishonest ? In any case this vote in that District stinks to high heaven!!
Phyllis, I understand that one of the Republican state senators is not a goose stepper and opposes Walker’s agenda.
I agree.
When are the Dems going to get a SPINE and kick some butt to get the election machine cleaned up? In Sarasota county Florida we have the same nonsense – Kathy Dent who plays with vote totals – and “lost” 18000 votes to select Vern Buchanan, a Cheney bot – and they get backed up by the rethuglican state committees because they are now elected, not professional positions.
This has gone on since before the 2000 theft and yet the Dems do nothing.
It sounds more and more to me like a third party Progressive is the only way to get clear of the corruption and money – the two main parties will not give it up.
Karl Rove and the Koch bros have already started with negative advertising down here supporting the corrupt Buchanan and trying to kill Bill Nelson for Senate – its’ going to be along 15 months….
unless we stand up for ourselves!
Welcome Al. 🙂
I think Democrats fear the calling the integrity of US elections into question would be more harmful to the nation than the actual thefts. They are wrong.
I was watching the results come in on the AP website last night, refreshing every few minutes for constant updates. I was actually wondering why the AP had not called the race for Sandy Pasch since she had a 2000 vote lead with the majority of remaining unreported precincts coming from Milwaukee, where Sandy was doing well. All of a sudden when I had refreshed again, Darling Cruella was leading by 4000 votes; her total had gone up 6000 votes, but there was no significant increase for Pasch and there were no additional precincts that had reported, according to the AP, but all of a sudden Darling was leading by 4000 votes. WTF??? Of course this election was stolen. Free and fair elections in Wisconsin? I don’t think so.
Welcome Ringo. 🙂
Wherever Republicans control the counting this will be a problem.
So far, I have heard accusations, but the only proof offered for a stolen election is that Nicholaus took too long to count the votes and exit polls were disallowed in her district. If that is all the Dems in Wisconsin have, then they have nothing, unfortunately.
I’m still wondering why the Dems did not put up a credible fight to contest Prosser’s obviously stolen election. Oh, that’s right, his opponent was an independent, not a Democrat. So if Nicholaus did steal another election, the Dems have no one to blame but themselves for allowing her criminal behavior to continue relatively uncontested.
Kevin, I claimed suspicion, not proof. Based on her priors, it’s justified.
Perhaps it’s different in Canada, but here in the US, elections to state office are under state jurisdiction. In that state, the criminals are in charge. The federal court refused to hear the Prosser case.
In my starry-eyed universe, I was hoping for a Democrat route of at least three Rep’s, sending a resounding message to Washington that the America public isn’t gonna take it anymore. While I agree that ousting two in traditionally red districts was a major accomplish by an under-funded but highly-charged Democratic organization, it allows the Rep’s to claim victory and continue the status quo of decimating the economy in order to oust Obama. They’re being remarkably successful.
Is anyone else dismayed at the appointment of John Kerry to the Super Committee? This is the decorated Vietnam serviceman who couldn’t or wouldn’t counter the Swift-boat attacks from a candidate who DIDN’T EVEN SERVE. Guys in tasseled loafers finish last.
My starry-eyed universe was the same, but we cannot allow disappointment to cloud our judgment on what an excellent accomplishment it was. Because one of the Republicans in the state senate does not goose-step, two may have been enough.
Kerry has recovered a little of his old gumption, but not enough. “Swift boating” was new in 2004, and the common wisdom was to ignore it because it was so extreme that it would backfire. Common wisdom was wrong.
