One of the strongest voices accusing Obama and Democrats of socialist policies is Michelle Bachmann. To her, TARP is socialist, Obamacare is socialist, the stimulus is socialist, and whenever Obama visits the throne, he uses socialist paper. But wouldnβt you know that BS B loves socialism in her own district, and especially, $154,000 of socialism in her own pocket.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has built a large part of her conservative appeal on strict opposition to federal intervention in the free market. Her real-time criticism of the Troubled Asset Relief Program earned her plaudits among the base voters who will soon decide Republican primary elections. Her pledge to repeal President Obama’s health care law, on grounds that it imposes an across-the-board government solution, has become a focal point of her presidential campaign.
When it comes to the agriculture industry, however, Bachmann’s record doesn’t match the fiscal conservative hype. A Freedom of Information Act request for communications the Minnesota Republican has had with the Department of Agriculture shows that she leaned heavily on federal officials for help — never more so than when it came to aiding the pork and dairy producers in her state.
On Oct. 5, 2009, Bachmann wrote Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack praising him for injecting money into the pork industry through the form of direct government purchases. She went on to request additional assistance⦠[emphasis added]

What could be more socialist than direct government intervention in the market to drive the price up?

Hereβs the bottom line. Republicans love socialism, but thereβs a catch. Socialism is for the rich only. The rest of us are stuck with free enterprise.

That’s exactly what it is. Many a wealthy person has benefited from government intervention of one kind or another, to say nothing of subsidies and tax breaks for corporate projects, and the occasional use of eminent domain to seize land for same.
It’s worth publicizing these hypocrisies. Some people within the Republican base actually do demand consistency (for example, there’s this), and nobody likes being played for fools by a hypocrite.
Amen Infidel. Did you intend your Diaper Dave link for the next article down?
I just meant it as an example that some right-wingers will call out their own for hypocrisy, meaning that they may do the same with Bachmann if her activities become well-known enough.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure, because your comment was perfect for the other article too. π
Tom you’re right on! Why is it that middle America can’t seem to see the truth through their Christian mind-set? These bastards are just taking their money as blatantly as Wall St. and no one gives a shit! Even when they bust their unions they’re only momentarily shaken with a glimpse of how barbarous the folks really are that they voted for – did these governors suddenly change faces?
I’m really taken with Maddow’s “lean forward” ad about the infra-structure jobs that are waiting out there – standing by one of the most impressive spans (bridges) in the country – truly an awe-inspiring piece of architecture – noting that a corporation “can’t afford to make money – constructing similar landmarks” – it’s devastating to me to see the great works of this country erode to mere waste and “history” – how awful – once in a while my patriotism shows through!! π
Thanks Lee. I am also very impressed by Rachel’s ‘Lean Forward’ ad. It makes a valid point.
Hell, Michele “Welfare Queen” Bachmann’s only family farm has received more than $250,000 from the government in farm subsidies!

Thanks Nameless. Why am I not surprised?
I have a garden that grows all kinds of stuff – can I apply for an ag subsidy? I wonder what Bachmann grows on her “farm” that entitles her her to $250K in ag subsidies? WTF? π
Are you rich? no…..
Are you Repuglican? no….
Free enterprise only for you! π
That’s right! Take all you can and let everyone else fend for themselves.
Bingo!
“Crazy like a fox! Huh? π
Johnny, I think many of her beliefs are crazy like bonkers, but her tactics are Machiavellian.
Bachmann is batshit crazy and has nothing whatsoever to contribute to our country, unless you call ignorance and lying solid virtues.
You forgot greed.
