Yesterday I slept most of the afternoon.  Today I need to go out to run errands.  I’m current on replies.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:52 (average 5:16).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Last week, 41 Senate Democrats wrote letters to President Obama urging him to resist the Republican effort to sharply cut and transform Medicaid, the joint federal and state health program that primarily benefits poor children and pregnant women, disabled adults, and nursing home residents.

41?  That’s ALL? 🙁

From Alternet: A President Barack Obama impersonator won cheers and laughter Saturday at a gathering of Republican activists with an often off-color routine that mocked the real Obama’s mixed-race parentage.

Actor Reggie Brown’s routine to the Republican Leadership Conference here drew groans and was ultimately cut short after he savaged the crowded field Republican of candidates eager to deny Obama a second term.

I get it.  Racist Obama remarks were great entertainment, but criticizing the Reich got him the hook.

From Gawker: The office of Republican Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey is claiming that Fox News chairman Roger Ailes is a confidential adviser whose interactions with the governor should remain secret under New Jersey’s executive privilege.

What further proof do we need that Faux Noise is the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda?

  1. Reggie Brown’s routine adds even more documentation of right-wing racism after getting the hook because he started skewering Repubicans, as proved by Repubican Leadership Conference President, Charlie Davis’s comment: “He was funny the first 10 or 15 minutes,”

  2. At least one prominent Republican, former Republican National Committee spokesman Doug Heye, immediately expressed dismay with Brown’s routine.

“Wonder why many minorities have problems with GOP? Hiring Obama impersonator to tell ‘black jokes’ at SRLC, for starters. Our own fault,” he said in his Twitter feed.~~~~from story.

Well, for starters, the impersonator was more “Flip Wilson” than Obama and secondly, Republicans are too one dimensional to understand jokes directed at them. They have a very limited sense of humor. 😈

  3. Sorry for overstaying my welcome, but since it’s Father’s Day I can’t help but share an incredibly touching story (I may be deaf, but the pictures in the accompanying video really do speak a thousand words … so consider that a Hankie Alert, and file it under “A Dying Man’s Last Wish”):

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A community came together to grant a homeless man his last wish. That dying wish was to see his dog one more time. It was a simple request, but one that meant the world to him in his final days.

People involved with the man’s last wish describe it as something they’ll never forget. Now that he’s gone, they’ll always cherish the memories of the man and his best friend.
