The corporate dictatorship of Fitzwalkerstan, formerly Wisconsin, has become emblematic for states in which Republicans control the state house and the legislature. Their state Supreme Court rules that Walker’s law to bust public employ unions was legal. The deciding vote came from David Prosser, after his former subordinate “found” enough “missing” votes for him to “win” the recent special election. The unions are filing suit in federal court.
A group of Wisconsin state and municipal workers’ unions filed a federal lawsuit in a bid to block implementation of a bill backed by Governor Scott Walker curbing collective-bargaining rights.
The state law violates the U.S. constitution by creating a “disfavored” class of public employees and a “favored” class consisting of firefighters and law enforcement officials, the unions representing teachers, health-care workers and other public workers, said in a complaint filed yesterday in federal court in Madison.
“The distinctions the act makes between ‘public safety’ and other employees not only lack any rational connection to a legitimate governmental objective, they bear a remarkably close connection to the illegitimate objective of punishing the political opponents and rewarding the political supporters of the governor,” the unions said in the complaint.
The unions seek a court ruling that parts of the law are unconstitutional and an order preventing the state from implementing those parts.
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court on June 14 rejected a county judge’s ruling invalidating the measure.
A first-term Republican, Walker signed the legislation on March 11. It requires annual recertification votes for public employees’ union representation and makes their payment of membership dues voluntary. Firefighters and police officers are exempt… [emphasis added]

In my mind, there is little doubt that this is a bill of attainder, which the US Constitution forbids. Walker has clearly singled out a group of people to target. Ed Schultz discusses the consequences of Republican abuse of power with a teacher and a school media specialist.

I fully support the Public Employee Unions in Fitzwalkerstan and everywhere that Republicans are trying to strip their rights.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
What about where Democrats are actively working to strip public unions of their rights? Dave Bing is the Democrat Mayor of Detroit and he actively is pursuing EFM status from Snyder so he can dictate to the city workers who have already given back about 20% in wages and agreed to higher payments for medical? Is this shit less odious because it comes from the desk of a Democrat?
Mark, regardless of his party affiliation, the heart of Dave Bing is republican. He should be apposed like Joe LIEberscum, Ben Nelson (NE) or any other DINO.
Talk about election fraud!!!
I wish them luck in their lawsuit. However, with such a conservative Supreme Court, I don’t think they have a snowball’s chance in hell.
In this case, I think SCOTUS might fear establishing a precedent that could be used against Republicans.
We need strong unions in America, now! ❗
❗ ❗ ❗
What Scott Walker and his goons have done in Fitzwalkerstan is unheard of and unforgivable. Those arrogant bastards have no shame and no decency. The recalls for all of those crooked bastards can’t come quick enough!
Next year for Walker. Retake the Senate in August.
the bottom line is a struggle for power–its “Us” the workers ; vs “Them “– the “elite” ;!!
It is another chapter in the fight for basic rights—and a share in the pie–
Exactly, Phyllis.
