Yesterday I went to the denturists office, and he took the final impressions.  He accidentally double booked, so I had to wait for over an hour.  The time was well spent, because I chatted with a conservative woman.  She was a thoroughly  nice gal.  I talked issues with her, and by the time we were done, she realized that the Republican Party actually represents the opposite of what she wants and believes.  When the frames come back, I go back in so he can adjust the bite, and then one more time to pick them up.  I am SO ready for an ear of corn.  The outing pooped me out, and I overslept and am running a little late, but I’m current on replies.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:48 (average 4:20).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Pakistan’s top military spy agency has arrested some of the Pakistani informants who fed information to the Central Intelligence Agency in the months leading up to the raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden, according to American officials.

A casualty of the recent tension between the countries is an ambitious Pentagon program to train Pakistani paramilitary troops to fight Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the northwestern tribal areas.

Pakistan’s detention of five C.I.A. informants, including a Pakistani Army major who officials said copied the license plates of cars visiting Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in the weeks before the raid, is the latest evidence of the fractured relationship between the United States and Pakistan. It comes at a time when the Obama administration is seeking Pakistan’s support in brokering an endgame in the war in neighboring Afghanistan.

With friends like Pakistan, who needs enemies?  With this nation in control of our supply lines and exit route, our troops in Afghanistan are more at risk than is acceptable, necessitating withdrawal.

From STL Today: The Wisconsin Supreme Court cleared the way on Tuesday for significant cuts to collective bargaining rights for public workers in the state, undoing a lower court’s decision that Wisconsin’s controversial law had been passed improperly.

The vote was 5-4, enabled by the election theft through which David Prosser occupies the seat Joanne Kloppenberg won.

From Washington Blade: A California federal court on Tuesday denied a request to invalidate a decision overturning the state’s ban on same-sex marriage based on the argument that the judge who decided the matter should have recused himself because he’s gay.

U.S. District Judge James Ware determined in his decision that retired U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker’s sexual orientation isn’t a reason for recusal or disqualification in the case that will determine the constitutionality of Proposition 8, which California voters approved in 2008 to make a ban on same-sex marriage part of the state constitution.

Were this not correct heterosexual judges would also have to recuse themselves from such cases.

For the record, I had completed making this before I learned of the incident reported in today’s second article.

  1. Happy Magna Carta Day!

Given by our hand in the meadow that is called Runnymede, between Windsor and Staines, on the fifteenth day of June in the seventeenth year of our reign [1215, A.D.]

  2. 3:06 My best time ever, I think! 😀 I’m 52 out of 166 (313).

  3. “A casualty of the recent tension between the countries is an ambitious Pentagon program to train Pakistani paramilitary troops to fight Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the northwestern tribal areas.” Yeah, that’s because they are not doing anything to train these troops; you can’t train people who don’t want to be trained.

Take their $20B away, withdraw from Afghanistan and leave them alone. I predict India will nuke them because they don’t want any of the Taliban floating over into their country. They won’t let us on their soil to track the Taliban and they won’t do it themselves so if they and Afghanistan want to be ruled by the Taliban, have at it. Bonus, we’ll save a shitload of money and American lives. No brainer. 🙄

    • The only thing I wouldn’t agree with is your prediction that India will nuke them. I would think they are more likely to nuke India.

  4. I saw that Beck statement on Ed’s show. Absolutely disgusting.

Good luck with the teeth. I had enough back molars pulled that I’m getting a partial. GAD! That sounds so old! However, 35 years smoking is the bone-deteriorating cause more than age. Hubs said I’d have to go back several times before it fits properly, so be prepared for that. Maybe the good part is that you’ll convert another benighted Republican. 😀

    • Wasn’t it though?

Thanks Marva, and same to you. I probably wont run into the gal again. She was a patient in the waiting room, but that’s how we’re going to win this war. One person at a time.

  5. So sorry Prosser, you lost. Pack your bags and get the fuck out of Kloppenberger’s seat.

So CA again gets the right to marry gay people! Yeah, good for our LBGT friends! 😉

Yeah, but Sarah Palin made it first, so you’re off the hook. What a hideous representation of where the Repubs want to focus on their races. Crosses after the shooting in Phoenix would have been more appropriate. Assholes. 😯

    • Won’t happen. The theft was completely successful.

      Amen!

Thanks Lisa. The point of it was to remember the violence Republican hatred has caused, including Gabby Giffords.

  6. Judge Vaughn Walker’s sexual orientation isn’t a reason for recusal or disqualification in the case that will determine the constitutionality of Proposition 8,

This was always a bizarre claim. By such an argument, a black judge would have to recuse himself from judging a civil-rights case, a female judge would be disqualified from judging a women’s-rights case, etc.

    • It was, Infidel, nut that is exactly what Republicans were claiming. Your examples illustrate the absurdity of that claim. Thanks.
