Every time I think that the Corporate Dictatorship of Fitzwalkerstan, formerly Wisconsin, has reached a plateau of low, they surprise me.  Recall elections that appear likely to sweep six Koch sucking Republicans from the senate there were scheduled for July 12.  But the Republicans are chicken.  They are afraid that body will be returned to the people, and rightly so.  To delay the recalls they invented Republicrats, Republicans posing as Democrats to challenge real Democrats and force sham primaries, thus delaying the recalls.

A Republican effort to stall recall elections by forcing Democratic primaries to be held will cost taxpayers at least tens of thousands of dollars, a check of local election clerks shows.

Meanwhile, the top Senate Republican said Tuesday that all GOP recall targets were familiar with the plan to delay the recall elections by fielding fake Democrats in primaries. Earlier, some of those recall targets claimed they didn’t know about the plan.

Recall elections for six Republican senators are scheduled for July 12. If there are multiple candidates from the same party in any of those elections, the July 12 election becomes a primary election, and a general recall election will be scheduled for Aug. 9.

Republicans are being recruited to run as Democrats in all six races so the general elections would be pushed back a month. That will give Republicans a crucial extra month to campaign, said Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau).

Fitzgerald said all six Republicans facing recalls knew about the plan. That differs from statements by Republican Sens. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac and Luther Olsen of Ripon that they were not informed of it. Jennifer Harrington, the campaign manager for Sen. Dan Kapanke (R-La Crosse), has said she did not know of the plan.

"All of them were aware that this was taking place," Fitzgerald said. "Some were questioning the angles on it."

He said it was discussed at the state Republican convention in Wisconsin Dells in May.

After Fitzgerald made his comments, Olsen continued to insist he had no knowledge of the plan. Asked if he was sure he didn’t know about it, he said: "Unless I wasn’t paying attention, but I’m sure I was paying attention."

Hopper couldn’t be reached Tuesday, but on Sunday he said he knew nothing about it. "My campaign and myself don’t know anything about this," he said then… [emphasis added]

There may be more, but the recruiting has been successful in at least one district.

The recall election for Senator Dan Kapanke may be pushed back another month.

Former La Crosse County Republican Party leader James Smith plans to run as a Democrat against Jennifer Shilling. That would make the July 12 election the primary date, moving the general election back about a month.

"I consider myself more of a protest candidate than a spoiler candidate," Smith said. "I think light really needs to be shed onto the recall process.”

On Monday, the 25-year-old resigned his position on the executive committee of the La Crosse County Republican Party. Yesterday, he sent in the paper work to run as a Democrat in the 32nd Senate District recall election. Smith needs 400 signatures by Tuesday to be eligible to run… [emphasis added]

I hope local Democrats challenge the signatures.

I trust that Wisconsin residents will spread it far and wide how the Republicans who claim the state has no money to pay teachers, had money to give millionaires, billionaires and criminal corporations huge tax cuts, creating a deficit when Democrats left them a surplus. And now these hypocritical Republicans have no problem spending tens of thousands of dollars to stage sham elections.

  1. They just want to waste more taxpayer money with this ruse. That way they can say they need more “budget cuts”.

    • Patty, I don’t think so. They are trying to hold on to power as long as they can to institute more of their agenda.

  2. Love it! Fitzwalkerstan – too funny – I’d really be laughing if the truth of it weren’t so true and utterly offensive!
    Thanks Tom

  3. yupperz, Fitzwalkerstan…. it is the going phrase here……it is also notable that The Repub in my Senate District, Randy Hopper, has set up a campaign headquarters in Oshkosh….. next to a porno bookstore. 😯

  4. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Repubs have no principles or morals. They better get some real Dem candidates in there before this whole thing accomplishes nothing but trading Repub for Repub (and some may be more dangerous than the ones already in there, as if that were possible). Walker is out on his 1 year anniversary and he knows that; he’s just trying to keep the legislature repub. He is a foul (or fowl) man. πŸ™„
