A Place for Republicans

We on the left sometimes joke about exporting extreme Republicans to their own country.  Some on the right, such as Rick Perry and Todd Palin, aren’t joking about it, but they want to take their states with them.  But what if there were already a country that perfectly suits the ideals of what Republicans want for America?  There is!  I often disagree with Nicholas Kristof, but this time, he struck gold.

5GopHomeWith Tea Party conservatives and many Republicans balking at raising the debt ceiling, let me offer them an example of a nation that lives up to their ideals.

It has among the lowest tax burdens of any major country: fewer than 2 percent of the people pay any taxes. Government is limited, so that burdensome regulations never kill jobs.

This society embraces traditional religious values and a conservative sensibility. Nobody minds school prayer, same-sex marriage isn’t imaginable, and criminals are never coddled.

The budget priority is a strong military, the nation’s most respected institution. When generals decide on a policy for, say, Afghanistan, politicians defer to them. Citizens are deeply patriotic, and nobody burns flags.

So what is this Republican Eden, this Utopia? Why, it’s Pakistan…

Inserted from <NY Times>

Needless to say, Republicans will disagree.  Their principal objection might be that the wrong Taliban is in charge.  They don’t want a country controlled by Muslims.  They want a country controlled by extreme Republican Supply-side pseudo Christians, but with that one little change, it is a place that fits the Republican vision for America.

  1. I bet they don’t teach evolution or any kind of real science in the schools in Pakistan, either — of course that explains why Pakistan is being left in the dust developmentally by its secular neighbor, India (as the US would be, too, if the nutters got their way with our educational system).

Religious extremists are more alike than different, regardless of the religion.

I’d argue that there’s a libertarian utopia too.

  2. I say we send them to Pakistan – just for a month – and see how they like it. If they do, they can come back and succeed from the union, but that means no more fed funds for anything and they have to fund their own National Guard and patrol the borders by themselves. That will be a real wake up call for them. Idiots. 🙄

  3. lol you guys are funny…. pakistan isn’t as bad as the media makes it seem. if the media ran news about certain states and ONLY SHOWED videos of crime, racism, and terrorism… that state would be isolated into a title such as one given to pakistan. no wonder you guys are democrats… no education!

    • I suggest you read the rules page here about personal attacks. We argue issues here without attacking anyone who posts or comments, This is your only warning.

Since you seem so enamored with Pakistan, Bon Voyage!

  4. Why is B.O sending money to Pakistan. Why is B.O trying to let them overtake Israel? Why is he relocating Hamas people to the U.S. Seems he likes Pakistan far more than we do. Have none of you read about the New World Order? Or the North American Union? Or Agenda 21. Or the Trilateral Commission? Have you never heard of Bildeberg? Left or right, you should take a look at these.
Yes, we want less govt. We want the fraud and corruption from both parties ended. We want the corrupt Federal Reserve audited or them to explain where the missing 14 trillion dollars went. How do you think we got into this mess? It wasn’t from any one party. It was from the many in both parties. And they have been doing this to us for decades. Read about Jeckyl Island. Their object is to kill the middle class and they are doing a good job of it so far.
Or do you prefer a country where selfadmitted communist terrorists like Bill Ayres or selfadmitted communist Van Jones is a part of running this govt.

    • Wow, Myke. Seldom have I seen such an impressive list of fringe conspiracy theories, with a complete absence of factual support. Thou shalt not commit Teabuggery. 🙂
