Republicans hate the CFPB. Any agency that exists to protect consumers from criminal Banksters directly opposes Republican policy. They hate Elizabeth Warren. The CFPB is her idea and exists only because of her efforts to promote it. So to avoid a confirmation fight, Obama tasked Warren with finding a replacement for her. The problem is, nobody in their right mind, except for a dedicated, progressive consumer advocate, like Warren herself, would want the job!
Elizabeth Warren might end up being the nominee to be permanent head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as the White House can’t find anyone willing to take the job [Murdoch delinked]. Warren has been spearheading the effort to get the new agency up and running, but is generally not expected to be Obama’s permanent nominee because of strong congressional opposition to her, specifically.
White House officials seeking someone to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have so far failed to find a nominee, with several candidates rebuffing the administration’s overtures, according to people familiar with the process.
One concern of some: That accepting would undercut Elizabeth Warren, the Harvard law professor and consumer advocate who is currently a special adviser to the president charged with setting up the bureau. She remains a hugely popular figure among many Democrats and anathema to many Republicans.
Many on the left want Ms. Warren, a longtime critic of the financial industry who pushed to create the consumer protection agency, to become its director.
The nascent bureau must have a director in place by July 21 in order to get a slate of broad powers to attack fraudulent and abusive financial practices.

Count me among those who want Warren as director. However, I will happily change my mind were she to be tagged to replace Tim Geithner.

Cheney used his position as finder of VP nominee to nominate himself for the position.
Elizabeth Warren should do the same and cite Cheney as an example of said procedure.
She is very intelligent and concerned about the real American people.

Actually only the Democratic Convention could nominate Cheney as VP. What Cheney did id recommend himself to Bush.
The Repubs won’t allow her to have any job – so I say a recess appt is in order. CFPB or Geithner’s job (as I have said in the past) – she would be great at either one of them. I want her to at least set up the CFPB and then take Geithner’s job. That would be ideal.
