Romney Runs; Seamus Says No

We all knew it was only a matter of time before Mitt tossed his hat into the ring, making him the second serious candidate in a field of fools.  He may be the best the Republicans have to offer, but his record is so bad and his judgment so poor that nobody in their right mind should want to vote for him.

12RomneyFormer Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney formed a presidential exploratory committee Monday that will allow him to raise money for a near-certain run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

"It is time that we put America back on a course of greatness with a growing economy, good jobs and fiscal discipline in Washington," Romney said in an online video announcing his intentions.

In the video, Romney focuses almost exclusively on the economy, touting his experience in creating jobs and balancing budgets in the private sector. He makes no mention of health care or his decision as governor to sign a law that has been unfavorably compared by some Republicans to the plan put in place by President Obama last year.

The video was shot at the University of New Hampshire, emphasizing Romney’s plan to put the Granite State at the center of his blueprint to win the GOP nomination.

Romney is the second major Republican candidate to form an exploratory committee. Last month, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty did the same. An announcement from Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour about his intentions is expected to come later this month.

Romney’s move was entirely expected. He has been preparing to run for president from almost the moment he came up short against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in 2008 and enters the race as its front-runner… [emphasis added]

Romney running on economics is absurd.  His track record is trashing th4e economy in MA.  But health care is not starter for him with the rabid Republican base, and he’s flipped enough on social issues to make one dizzy.  Lawrence O’Donnell and columnist Dana Milbank discuss his chances.

One good thing for him is that Blood-libel Barbie opposes him.

Despite, his other shortcomings, an incident in his past demonstrates that he lacks the judgment and compassion needed to be President.

12RomneyDogsThe reporter intended the anecdote that opened part four of the Boston Globe’s profile of Mitt Romney to illustrate, as the story said, "emotion-free crisis management": Father deals with minor — but gross — incident during a 1983 family vacation, and saves the day. But the details of the event are more than unseemly — they may, in fact, be illegal.

The incident: dog excrement found on the roof and windows of the Romney station wagon. How it got there: Romney strapped a dog carrier — with the family dog Seamus, an Irish Setter, in it — to the roof of the family station wagon for a twelve hour drive from Boston to Ontario, which the family apparently completed, despite Seamus’s rather visceral protest… [emphasis added]

Given the condition of the windows, the family had to know their pet was suffering and opted to continue on.  Now I’m not saying we should condemn the man for something that happened years ago. I’m all for forgiveness and giving folks another chance. But we shouldn’t give a bank robber a job as a teller, and you don’t put this man in a job that requires good judgment tempered by compassion.  If I were Seamus, I wouldn’t vote for him.

  1. If Romney runs, why do I have a feeling that dog lovers will be voting for Obama in 2012?

In all seriousness, what an idiotic (and dangerous) thing to do to the family dog!

  2. Just to get it in the records, Mitt “Robber Baron” Romney has touted his “business acumen” in the current economic crisis as a credential for his presidential bid. While it’s true he made himself a multi-multi-millionaire after forming Bain Capital in 1984, he did so largely by firing hardworking middle class folks – and then running his acquisitions into the ground.

In 1992, Bain acquired American Pad & Paper. By the time Romney left Bain to start his life in politics seven years later, that company had closed two plants, laid off 385 American workers and was $392 MILLION in debt. The next year it went bankrupt.

In 1994, Bain bought Dade International for $450 MILLION. Over the next several years it laid off over 1,000 American workers, sank into debt and eventually had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In 1997, Bain bought LIVE Entertainment for $150 MILLION – and immediately laid off one in every four of its workforce.

Also in 1997, while “Robber Baron” Romney was still CEO of Bain, it acquired DDI Corp. But a few years later, in spite of laying off more than 2,100 American workers, it, too, had to file for bankruptcy. But this time the shareholders sued the company and Bain for mismanagement – and settled out of court for $4.4 MILLION.

That’s not exactly a stellar history of “business acumen” to my way of thinking.

  3. Romney is an opportunistic predator who destroys jobs for personal wealth. He will say or do anything to anybody to get elected. Just like Tim Pawlenty, another eager-beaver with White House ambitions. I see Pawlenty has now hired a campaign manager. Nothing could be worse for the American public than for either of these two arrogant idiots to become elected President!
