There is nothing Republicans would like better than an electorate in which only Republicans are allowed to vote. Their attempts to establish one party rule through caging, false accusations of fraud, and attacking organizations who register new voters indicate that goal indisputably. But disenfranchising voters is not enough. Republicans are bow working to prevent Democrat legislators from voting.
Fitzgerald: Dem senators won’t be allowed to vote in committees
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald wrote this afternoon in an email to his caucus that Senate Dems remain in contempt of the Senate and will not be allowed to vote in committees despite returning from their out-of-state boycott of the budget repair bill vote.
"They are free to attend hearings, listen to testimony, debate legislation, introduce amendments, and cast votes to signal their support/opposition, but those votes will not count, and will not be recorded," wrote Fitzgerald, R-Juneau.
For weeks on end, all we heard from Republicans was that Democrats had a duty to return to the state and vote on Scott Walker’s union-busting legislationβ¦ [emphasis original]

When they were gone they were supposed to be voting, but now that they are back, no voting for them! Shame on the Republican Party!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Somebody needs to tell these guys that Orwell’s 1984 was a warning, not a prescription.
Wonder how long they can drag out that “in contempt” status — assuming there’s any legal basis for it at all.
Let’s hope it add more fuel to the recall-movement fires.
RepubliSpeak Dictionary – Democracy: Republican totalitarian rule.
2012 The Year of the Recalls. We need to rid ourselves of all these mini dictators.
Blue, from your mouth to God’s ear! Every Republican in office is one too many.
I do not understand how anyone looking at all this can think it anything but a Civil Rights issue; Taking away one’s right to vote; disenfranchising – is a serious business- with Civil rights the battleground . a battle we thought had been won long time ago ;-
Of course it is, Phyllis. Republicans think that only they should get to vote.
Sadly, Wisconsin no longer exists. It has been replaced by FitzWalkerstan, headed by the two Scotts: Sen. “You-Don’t-Get-No-Stinking-Vote” Fitzgerald and Gov. “Room-Temperature-IQ” Walker. And of course it’s totally financed by the Koch brothers.
But, hey, they do have their own flag:

Nameless, is that graphic stealable?
Apparently yes – I’ve seen it quite a bit at lots of different sites w/ NO attribution. (I like the “Rich Uncle Pennybags” Monopoly guy – you just don’t see that on a flag everyday.)
Thanks. I have it saved. You know an opportunity for it will come!
Let the Constitutional battles begin. Sadly for WI, nothing is going to get done until this is resolved. Fitzgerald and Walker are walking dipshits.
And I fear for the outcome, considering the makeup of SCOTUS.
Why, that bastard Fitzgerald! That arrogant prick! HE ought to be the very first one recalled and literally thrown out onto the pavement! Somebody needs to get a court injunction against this asshole’s actions,, and quick!
Unfortunately, state law makes him untouchable until January. π
Has it been established that there is a legal basis for this? It was in effect as of March 15th, and I haven’t found anything contrary to date at WISPOLITICS.COM. The best I can understand this will not effect voting once bills leave committee and are voted on in the full senate. I am guessing that amendments could probably be added at this time, but would be voted on by the full senate instead of the pertinent committees. I am not clear whether this depends on the removal of the contempt order against the Democrats who participated in the parliamentary maneuver by leaving the state on April 5th when the full senate returns to session.
Paul, in my opinion, there is no legal basis for it. After the big stink made over this by bloggers nationwide and labor,. Walker backed down. His minions opted “not to enforce” the contempt order. Committees is where bills take form. This was an attempt to craft bills without oppisition.
