Regular readers here know the whole story about how C Street Republicans have assisted in a social engineering plan to pass a law in Uganda that calls for life imprisonment, and in some cases, death for gay Ugandans.  Most recently, I covered it extensively in Republican Death Panels at Home and Abroad.  Fortunately the UN just dealt their nefarious plans a severe blow.

22cstreetSuporters of rights for gays and lesbians worldwide secured a major victory at the United Nations this week. The 192-nation U.N. General Assembly voted to restore a reference to killings due to sexual orientation that had been deleted from a resolution condemning unjustified slayings. The shift came after the United States submitted an amendment to restore the reference, which the General Assembly’s human rights committee removed last month from a resolution on extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions that is adopted every two years…

…The committee’s deletion of the reference last month — at the proposal of African and Arab nations — had outraged Western countries and human rights activists. Similar resolutions adopted in previous years have explicitly mentioned killings due to sexual preference, along with slayings for racial, national, ethnic, religious or linguistic reasons and killings of refugees, indigenous people and other groups.

Cary Alan Johnson, executive director of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC), was pleased with the outcome. “The outpouring of support from the international community sent the strong message to our representatives at the U.N. that it is unacceptable to make invisible the deadly violence LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people face because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation.”… [emphasis added]

I could not be more pleased that these Republicans and their Ugandan cronies have another obstacle in the way of expressing their hate against the LGBT community.

  1. One of a few other good things happening here in our world of doom and gloom. Thanks.

  2. Good news TC. Not quite such an easy target anymore.

  3. That’s great news and what a smack down for the C- streeters. 😆

  4. Wow – what a Christmas, courtesy of courageous Congress critters who got some calcium in their coccyges … that crept right on up the rest of their spines! For those of us of a certain age, we did not just get stocking-stuffers – we got the electric train, chemistry set AND that Daisy Brand Red Ryder repeating BB carbine with a compass mounted in the stock we’ve been hoping for!

And now TC has found yet another goodie under our tree!

It’s been a fun-filled fantastic week – and I “double-dog dare” anyone to prove otherwise!

[Happy Holidays to all! I’m off (weather permitting) shortly to help my 94 year-old Mom celebrate Christmas in her transitional Rehabilitation Center. She fell when we were out celebrating her 94th birthday this past Veterans’ Day, broke her femur, got a hip replacement and has been on the mend (slowly but surely) ever since. I only hope I’m as tough as she is: She lives in a two-story home by herself (despite battling macular degeneration, lung cancer – even though she’s a non-smoker – and a stroke this past June) and she is just itching to get back to her home ASAP! So if you’re of a mind, I’d appreciate all the good thoughts, prayers and karma you can send her way.]

    • I agree with your enthusiastic assessment of year’s end and I identify with the language used. Why just the other day I “double dog dared” one of the young whippersnappers here at the office.

Best of luck to your mom. She reminds me of my own, who battled through coronary artery bypass X4 at the age of 84 and became even a better friend. We used to stay up until 2-3AM arguing about politics, theology, history, family, etc. Boy, howdy she could talk up a storm.

See you on the flip side of the New Year. Have a happy!
      Steve

    • Nameless, I do remember the double-dog-dare and the thrill of my first train set. However, I passes on the Daisy and held out for a .22. Have a great time with your mom. Thoughts and prayers, as always, are yours.

  5. What an immense relief!

  6. Who is this “The Family” that run C street and sponsored the dumb ass who is trying to make this Ugandan law?

    • Harper’s magazine (not Harper’s Bazarre) ran a series of articles on the C street family. In essence, they are a group of, mostly, white and, all conservative so called Christians who offerred up the C street residence as cheap housing for a number of like minded congressmen, including Senator David Vitter, Congressman Zach Wamp and others. They have decided, literally, that they are God’s gift to a world in need of salvation. Very creepy bunch, paternalistic and preoccupied with sex, especially homosexuality and determined to attain and maintain as much political power as possible. The Rachael Maddow Show on MSNBC also did a series of interviews with the Harper’s writer, who has also written a book on the subject.

    • Mark, exactly what Steve said. Check out the death panels posts I referenced in the first paragraph.

  7. The C-Street gang are a bunch of self-serving phonies who are about as “Christian” as Pontius Pilate. They have fashioned themselves into arrogant little gods. As such, they should be completely ignored by all who admire truth and honesty in government!

    • Actually, Jack, Pilate tried to let him go. But the Republicans of that day (Pharisees and Sadducees) whipped up their base to blood-lust, and Pilate caved-in to keep the peace.
