Battle Lines: Wrong vs Wrong

Wrong wing infighting took a new turn with the election of another Teabagger Senate Candidate, Christine O’Donnell.  On the one side we have the the plutocons, corporocons, and neocons.  On the other, we have the theocons and the insaniTEA movement. And it is getting ugly indeed.  How then, can we turn this to America’s advantage?

The de facto head of the Republican Party is having a fit over this.

ODonnellFingers Add Rush Limbaugh to the list of prominent conservatives tearing into Karl Rove’s hide today. As Rove continued his tour slamming freshly minted Delaware Republican Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell over the considerable number of skeletons in her closet, Rush was almost literally beside himself with frustration at the idea that anyone — much less The Architect — would dare violate the 11th Commandment so brazenly.

O’Donnell’s nomination has created deep divisions between the Republican Party and right-wing activists. Last night, Rove bashed O’Donnell — and her chances of being elected — and insisted that she’s said a lot of "nutty things." He was attacked by some right-wingers for those comments. O’Donnell whacked him back in a televised interview this morning. And then Rove responded to O’Donnell and his right-wing critics, daring them to ‘prove me wrong’. Then Palin slammed Rove. Now it’s Limbaugh’s turn… [emphasis added]

In the interest of public health, please have your barf bags ready.  Here’s Rush:

I apologize, that’s a lot of Rush to take, but watching him bust a gut at Turd Blossom is high entertainment.

On a more serious note, Rachel Maddow reveals the research she has done on O’Donnell’s positions and character.

Defining this candidate early is important, because the Republicans have already scrubbed her website, as they did with Obtuse Angle.

As I see it, the Republicans want to define the November’s races by painting the Obama administration as a failure.  Offering nothing new themselves, they are depending on voters to reject Obama’s handling of the economy.  Democrats need to take a different strategy.  First they must run on their accomplishments.  But to be successful, they must not allow the Republicans to define the races.  Democrats need to define the races as a choice between what Democrats want and what Republicans want.  What Democrats want is far closer to what Americans need.  Republicans extremists like O’Donnell are especially useful defining the Republican Party.  The only difference between establishment Republicans and Teabaggers is that the Teabaggers are open with their insane views and dangerous plans, while establishment Republicans are more adept at hiding them.  If we keep hammering on the differences, the outcome in November may not be nearly as bad as pundits claim.

No matter which faction, the right wing is the wrong wing.

  1. This kind of infighting is going to get more common as the teabuggers elevate more and more out-in-orbit candidates and demand that those party members who know better must follow them down the drain.

The only way it could get more ridiculous would be if they nominated an actual tea bag for a Senate seat.

For once I don’t think Limbaugh is going to get the last word. Rove is no shrinking violet.

    • I could swear I replied to this yesterday. Sorry for the delay. The party has changed their tune and are now goose-stepping behind even their most ludicrous fools.

  2. I love it ! Republicans so embraced teafoollery and now it’s come to bite them in the ass. They have become a sideshow, complete with barkers and freaks.
This was a gift. Now if Democrats can’t do something with it, shame on them. If media can’t get to ask in depth questions, double shame on them.

You know, we have piss poor candidates like Harry Reid. He’s going to lose to an imbecile. This Percy Dovetonsils of Nevada Harry milk toast Reid is the poorest person we could have put up. But that’s another story.
Having this infighting gives a great insight into the party of imbeciles.

  3. Doesn’t make a damn bit of difference what they do if the disparate elements of the left, the progressives, the left centrists, people of color, the liberals, them normally not willing to get off the sidelines because American Idol is on TV don’t go out and pull the lever. Where is Hollywood gen x’ers now and their huge get out the vote push we saw in ’08? You do know that business (humans my ass) has so far put ten times more money into the right than the left in order to truly and finally control the law making division of government. They have the courts, soon if no one votes for the left than they will also openly have the legislative. How much of the population do you think really pays attention to politics? Beck made the statement that the tea baggers are somewhere near ten percent of the population. Halve that and you still have a substantial voting bloc. More than enough to sway any election if the opposition (the left) sits on their ass for the next 5 weeks.

    • Mark, I can’t disagree with anything you say, if your major premise is correct. It may be, but I will not proceed on the presumption that it is. The only chance of survival this nation has depends on movtivating enough of them to go vote. That’s why it’s so important for the whine contingent of the progressive ,movement to get on board.

  4. My concern is that Democrats might take these nutters less than seriously and that could have disastrous consequences not only for the party but also for the country. This is a another great post Tom. I am following you on Stumble by the way and upclicking your excellent submissions.

    • Hi Mike!! Even in the midst of laughing at them we certainly need to take them seriously, just as you say. Thank you for that, and I do for yours as well. 😀

  5. I’m with you, Michael. One of my biggest fears is that Dems have become too complacent, or worse, too apathetic.

    • Leslie, see my reply to Mike. Without some very fast damage control, the party leadership will have stupidly lost what was once a sure win.

  6. “…the plutocons, corporocons, and neocons. On the other, we have the theocons and the insaniTEA movement.”

    I love these terms.

  7. Independents and dems are going to flee in droves from these wackos. I don’t know anyone who wants to be ruled by a theocrat.

  8. Hi TC, finally catching up with some blog reading, sorry for being absent for awhile. Great post here, I enjoyed watching both the Rush Limbaugh bit and of course, Rachel Maddow. This O’Donnell is a real piece of work and I have to say I’m glad she won so hopefully the Democrat in Delaware will win in November. But as Michael says, I hope they won’t underestimate these Teabagger candidates. They do have enthusiastic followers.

    • Mimi!! {{{HUG}}}!!! Thanks! As a rule, most Americans don’t even start thinking about midterm elections until after the World Series. Those participating in midterm primaries tend to be the activists. It is clear thet the Reich has more committed activists than our side, right now. Our best hope is thet the sleeping masses will wake up in October, look at the extremists and say WTF?!!?

    • Maui – you’re a bigger woman than me; I can’t stand to even see El Rushbo’s face, much less listen to him. Congrats to you, o’ brave progressive! 😆

  9. Rove knows Teabaggers ARE Republicans. He also knows how to play the political game, or would that be, game the political system. He is all about geting Republicans elected no matter what, and teabaggers can be self defeating at this point in history.

    • Dave, what bent Turd Blossom out of shape is are two things. He is totally results oriented and having a sure win seat shift to probable loss infuriates him. Also he cannot stand that he does not personally have control of the insaniTEA wing of the Republican Reich.

      • I don’t think the teabaggers have control of their movement; it’s hard to cohesively define the bunch of wackos that are running under that banner. THEY don’t even know what they want. 😈

  10. …and it is getting ugly indeed. How then, can we turn this to America’s advantage?

Hate to sound more pessimistic but there will be no collapse of the Repub/Teabaggers movement into some sort of Civil War. You probably already heard Senator Cornyn will indeed back the crazy O’Connell chick. I second everything TWN said, the pouting and disinterested bunch sitting on the sidelines either mad at Obama or caught up in reality television need to get involved.

    • Beach, I do not expect there to be a civil war. I did not expect the O’Donnell conflict to last. Teabaggers are just Republicans that are too naive to hide their extremism.

  11. Two words progressives, moderates – and actually any sane citizen – need to remember:

    MARTHA COAKLEY

We can’t afford complacency and allow another Scott Brown to slip in.

And I learned something interesting today from “The Daily Beast” – Christine O’Donnell’s sister is openly lesbian:

Wade Richards helped Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell rail against gay rights—until he came out. He tells Michelle Goldberg how O’Donnell abandoned him, and how her lesbian sister helped him accept his sexuality.

    • They are so kind in extending their family values – not only to their families, but everyone else’s too! 🙄

    • Nameless, I’m not for a second suggesting that we should not take the extremists seriously. That she could remain so hate filles, even against her own sister boggles the mind.

  12. After all this time, I’m still trying to get a bead on the exact relationship between Republicans and the Tea Party. On one hand, I’ve seen Religious Right Republicans actively woo Tea Partiers at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference, and the line-up for this weekend’s Values Voters Summit looks like more of the same. On the other hand, the rift that has formed between old guard Republicans and Tea Party candidates cannot be ignored. The relationship between the two is a lot more complex that the media realizes, and I’m eager to see how it evolves.

    • Ahab, the way I define it, the Teabaggers are the Brown Shirts of the Republican Reich. They do the dirty work, but are hard to control. When the Nazis took power, they threw the Brown Shirts under the bus and murdered their leaders. If the Republicans take power again, there is a bus in the future of insaniTEA.

  13. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Rove licking Limbaugh’s boots. I must say I agree with what he said the first time. We have to come out to vote and we will be alright. Armey and the tea party said they would have a hostile takeover and nothing less and they have. These brainless Politicians are the new face of Politics or so they say. Buy are we screwed if they are. Frig frig frig!
