Yesterday I caught up with replies and returning visits. I thought of making more visits, but used the time to put finish collecting the Constitution series and putting it in downloadable PDF format. I’ll fall behind today, because I have a routine doctor appointment with three hours travel time. Tomorrow will be just as busy, because of my volunteer work.

Today it took me 4:58. To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From AFP/Google: The US commander of the Afghan war has warned that troops’ lives will be endangered if a Florida evangelical church goes ahead with a planned burning of the Koran on Saturday’s 9/11 anniversary.
General David Petraeus said the planned torching of Islam’s holy book would be a propaganda coup for the Taliban in Afghanistan and stoke anti-US sentiment across the Muslim world.
I would hope that these Republicans will have the decency to listen to the right’s favorite warrior and refrain from jeopardizing our troops and threatening our nation’s security by this planned demonstration of Republican bigotry. Sadly, it would surprise me if they did.
From Washington Post: Struggling to contain an escalating crisis at Kabul Bank, Afghan authorities have barred the sale of Kabul properties held by the bank’s principal owners.
But the freeze excludes President Hamid Karzai’s brother, Kabul Bank’s third largest shareholder.
Here is another example of why we can’t win there, because we are tied to the Bush appointed puppet.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
How about if we burn bibles next door? Are they cool with that? Or burn the Torah? Oh, but not their sacred Bible. Why not read the Koran instead? 🙄
Karzai is corrupt to the core and anyone that doesn’t think so is fooling themselves. He didn’t even win that election from Jebus’ sake. 😈
Reading the Koran (I have), is a lot like reading the Bible: some heavy wisdom, but a lot that can be easily misinterpreted out of context.
Cartoon is dead on; nothing but opposition from the party of no. 😯
Amen

Almost, Jerry. 🙂
Damn right our troops will be endangered if that inbred shaman does his Koran-burning stunt. Same goes for any aid workers, diplomats or tourists in Muslim countries.
And of course Republicans don’t give a flying F$#!. “Support Our Troops!” was just a convenient soundbite when Dumbya was president.
Dead on, Tom.
This is not the first time the “Dove World Outreach Center” (surely a contender for the most oxymoronic name of the century) has run afoul of officials – or associated themselves with foul causes.
In the spring of this year “Rev.” Jones joined with those other religious kooks – Westboro Baptist – and posted a “No Homo Mayor” sign on church property against openly gay Gainesville mayoral candidate Craig Lowe. They were forced to take the signs down when Americans United for Separation of Church and State (www.au.org) filed a complaint with the IRS as a violation of the “church’s” tax-exempt status.
Despite (or maybe bacause of) their hate-mongering, Lowe won!
Their children were sent home and forced to cease and desist from wearing their “Islam is of the Devil” t-shirts to school.
They lost part of their tax-exempt status when the Alachua County Property Appraiser discovered they were selling furniture from the church.

Thanks for the background, Nameless.
I find it amazing that every broadcast I had seen discussing the Koran burning doesn’t mention the arrest of pastor Terry Jones for child pornography… you would think that would be of interest…
I also can’t recall a single Republican talking out AGAINST the burning, although I haven’t had a chance to watch the news lately so I may have missed one…
Kevin, I had no idea!
