Tuesday was a great day for Teabuggery, but none of the Republican winners has such a vile past as the surprise Republican nominee for the Florida Governorship, Rick Scott, who astroturfed Tea Party events so that he could profit from uninsured Americans. Thatβs just the tip of the iceberg.
Business executive and political newcomer Rick Scott narrowly defeated Attorney General Bill McCollum in the Republican primary for Florida governor, the Associated Press reported late Tuesday.
Scott accepted the GOP nomination in a Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina hotel ballroom filled with supporters, and set them chanting his campaign slogan, "Let’s get to work."
Moments earlier, McCollum refused to quit, rallying supporters and urging them to prepare "for a long night."
As of 11:30 p.m., Scott had collected 592,346 or 46.4 percent of 1,275,458 votes cast, compared to 553,631 for McCollum.
The Democratic primary for governor, however, was not as close. Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink pulled away early and was declared the winner shortly after 9 p.m. by the APβ¦

Rachel Maddow does a fantastic expose on this Republican monster, who avoided prison only by hiding behind his corporation, and discusses how the polls could have been so wrong with Nate Silver.

Poor Florida! If this guy wins, humans might as well leave the state!

Ahhhrrhhhh I’m sick about this one. This guy is one of the most evil corrupt bastard of all time. When Melissa and Me were watching Maddow and this guys mug came on we cringed. Somebody better check to how it was possible he could win. There must be some type of fraud involved. We already put him in for this weeks Golden Stiffy Award, the scum sucker, bottom feeding bastard. TC I can’t believe it. What’s wrong with people that he would even get one vote.
Tim, I think it goes to voter ignorance. The same could be said about Alvin Greene.
What? He is a capitalist in a free market that he helped to create and so there was a little fraud problem earlier in his career. The company paid the 1.7 billion fine and gave him 10 million to go away. Sounds like a standard 21st century Republican to me. Pretty sad that a dumb ass like Haley Barber couldn’t bring him into the fold as long as the left doesn’t make the Murkowski mistake of thinking November will be a cake walk it should be all right. But the president better move out from the center or it won’t make much of a difference because the Senate will still be in a stalemate.
Mark, I could not agree more.
I saw this vid and remember the infamous Columbia/HCA case. This guy is the bottom of the bottom of the Repubs – how could they even conceivably let him in the party, much less the primary. Says something about their character or lack there of.
Lisa, see my reply to Tim, but in this case, the criminality was far better known.
With profound regrets, I am sad to report that my home state has turned into a sewer for rogue politicians. McCollum is a bigoted Nazi, Scott is a crook, and Greene (the Democratic candidate running against Meeks) is a sleaze bucket. What choice do we have?
I have made my choice. I going back to Europe before the USA goes post Weimar.
Maybe they are the price you pay for having Alan Grayson. π
You will be missed. Where to?
This guy is a vile and thoroughly contemptible opportunist and CROOK! Your title and last sentence say it all, TomCat. The guy is a total puke and I hope Sink sinks him in a landslide!
So do I Jack. I don;t want this creep controling Florida’s voting machines.
The headline is about as remarkable as “Sun Rises In East.”
Just sayin’ π
Ptuifffffffphyyt!! π
It is kind of redundant, huh?
For whatever reason I could read War & Peace while an MSNBC video downloads, so I don’t know what Maddow covers. Bur wasn’t this company founded by the Frist family? On to my next book. ; )
Yep, disgraced Sen. Bill Frist’s family began the Columbia/HCA cesspool:
“Thomas Frist, the senator’s father, and the senator’s brother, Thomas Frist Jr., founded HCA Inc. in 1968 along with Jack Massey, the former owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Thomas Frist Jr., who stepped down as chairman of the company in 2002, still serves on the company’s board of directors.”

“Scott was forced to resign in the wake of the initial fraud charges in 1997. Dr. Thomas Frist Jr., a founder of the original Hospital Corp. of America and the brother of U.S. Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., was brought in to replace him as chairman and CEO.”

Thanks, Nameless. Your handle on sources is incredible. Do you write a blog?
Nope – no blog. I’m just a retired physician who finds it time-consuming just to keep up-to-date w/ the blogs I like and follow.
If you ever decide to start one, your spot in the blogroll here is guaranteed. π
Leslie, I’m sorry you have that problem. Is it the same at the MSNBC site? Nameless beet me to this.
If the Dems can’t defeat such an obvious villian and swindler, Romney may well easily defeat Obama. This will be interesting,
Not something I even want to consider, Dave. Seamus would become a canine suicide.
Only one? Floridians had a miserable roster of choices from both parties. On the Repug side, there was Rubio, McCollum, and Scott … all losers. On the Dem side was Jeff Greene. Thankfully, Meek won, but is he electable in November? Don’t know much about Alex Sink, wife of the the man who defeated Janet Reno some years ago. Either I will vote a straight Dem ticket or buy a ticket … one way outa here.
Florida’s GOP choices ARE pathetic and I plan on voting for Sink this fall – I’m hoping Chiles drops out and endorses her over Scott, which I think he will. The GOP primary got so dirty that these two scum bags got so much press coverage.
Luckily Crist dropped out of the GOP, otherwise Rubio would have had more face time with Florida voters, but in doing so, it left the Dems to engage in some mudslinging of their own… personally I’m a Crist fan, and think Meek will have a tough time this fall, having to split his attack on two candidates (Crist has a much easier run and I am looking for the best way to keep Rubio out of office)…
Kevin, I would certainly prefer Crist to Rubio.
Octo, I agree. It’s pathetic. Meek is the best of the bunch, and his corruption would be an ongoing source of embarrassment.
