By rights, the US should be the most tolerant nation on earth. Our Constitution gives us the right to believe and practice the faith of our choice, including faith in nothing, to say what we wish, within reason, and to do what we wish, again within reason. Given such a structure, the only sensible way to deal with people who have beliefs and behavior different from ours is mutual respect and tolerance. However, the Republican Party has made intolerance an issue. For example:
Republican Allen West is the Tea Party candidate for House in Florida’s 22nd district … said:
[A]s I was driving up here today, I saw that bumper sticker that absolutely incenses me. It’s not the Obama bumper sticker. But it’s the bumper sticker that says, ‘Co-exist.’ And it has all the little religious symbols on it. And the reason why I get upset, and every time I see one of those bumper stickers, I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country. Would give away who we are, our rights and freedoms and liberties because they are afraid to stand up and confront that which is the antithesis, anathema of who we are. The liberties that we want to enjoy.”
… [emphasis added]
Inserted from <Daily Kos>
West, and his Republican cronies are wrong. It is they who would give away our country, because they are the ones who are opposing the constitutional guarantees we enjoy, the rights and freedoms and liberties, by denying the to others. It is they who are the antithesis, anathema of who we are.
That said, I must confess to an intolerance of my own. I have zero tolerance for the intolerant.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I don’t and haven’t seen a hue and cry from the repugs to imitate our white forbears who have absolutely tight immigration policies and border controls in place. which if they really wanted they could do but then they would lose that cheap illegal labor. Pay a living wage to farm workers and more Americans would be able to man those jobs. But remember too they are the party of kill jobs and let computers take over as much of unionized labors work as possible.
Mark, I hear yopu about the computers, butb what will you do, through shoes (sabot) into the machines? There are plenty of union jobs available… in China.
What I want to say, I hesitate… I’m just going to say, MSM should start doing it’s job and report on this guy every day. Call it community service. He needs to be watched and documented. Stop with the fluff stories, fill and lohan stories. We’re so screwed…..
Tim, if this guy were the problem that would be easy, but he’s just today’s example of thousamnds of Republican theocons.
I would love to stick one of these bumper stickers on his car!
Over his mouth might be a better location for it. 😉
I’ve gotta get that bumper sticker if only because it drives the right-wing nitwits nutsier than they already are.
LOL, Marva! Happy Birthday!!
I Can’t Stand Intolerance!
How intolerant of you. 😉
“Co-Exist” — oh my God, can’t you liberals see that this is just another socialist gimmick??? That seemingly innocent bumper sticker is a Trojan Horse. Those commie globalist one-world-government fanatics are trying to destroy America from within, and they’re succeeding!
Someone babysit Tom, please. He’s been into the tea again. 😉
As was recently reviewed here under our First Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”
POP QUIZ FOR CONGRESS CRITTERS:
Question 1: Are you a member of the United States Congress?
YES [X] NO [ ]
Question 2: Should you make ANY EFFORT to impede ANY religion from practicing their faith in ANY building in Lower Manhattan (or ANYWHERE else)?
YES [ ] NO [X]
See, now wasn’t that easy?
So all you Teapublicans, just STFU for once – and quit destroying our Constitution!
I want my country back!
Nameless, it really doesn’t requier rocket science, does it.
My husband has the shirt, I have the bumper sticker. Again, Repubs, read the Constitution.
Right on, Lisa!
