I’ll have to say that Keith Olbermann made a strong argument for Obama acting like the grownup here. Accepting McC’s resignation (e.g., firing him) only plays into the right-wing’s talking points.
Of course, either way, the f*er’s would have something to bitch about.
I think that Obama might have slapped McC down and let him know who’s in charge. Put him on notice and see if he is either a) the traitor he appears to be or b) a good general who needs to keep his mouth shut in re personal opinions.
Marva, I included that special comment in the earlier post on this. While he had a point, I disagreed. McChrystal had been put on notice three times before. It didn’t help.
I can’t say I’m surprised, but I still have to read the Rolling Stone article. My DSL has been down all freaking day so my laptop turned into a big huge paperweight. Luckily, the genius IT guy that is my husband, Otis, saved the day and fixed in for me.
McChrystal is a bastard but no dummy, part of me thinks that he made the comments on purpose hoping Obama would fire him. He would be the first to know there is no military solution to Afghanistan, being fired saves him from the history book from saying he was defeated. It sounds crazy but I’m just thinking out loud.
That doesn’t sound crazy at all. I think he too ‘wanted his life back’ and doing the RS article just sealed the deal. I think you are absolutely right.
Could be Beach, but I don’t think so. The guy is a ‘true believer’, exhibiting concrete thinking error. This error is often paired with superoptimism, the thinking error that he’s so justified that he’s untouchable.
Amen!
🙂
I just saw that. Do I eat crow now?
No need. You expressed the need for clear headedness. You were right.
Rest in pieces…
Piecefully? 😉
Not to worry about the dear general..
He’s up for the part of Jack D. Ripper in the remake of Doctor StrangeLove.
Of course I made that up but hey you never know…….
Really? Did the civilian leadership conspire to taint McChrystal’s precious bodily fluids too?

If only this would change things for the better but it will not. It’s pretty much the same as the war continues and the gusher is gushing more.
The one bright side I see is that Petrarus will obey, hopefully whithout scheming to get more troops at the time we are committed to draw them down.

Sounds like he has his uses. 😉
